The main risks are:
Approximately 20-30% of the pregnancies will be twins. There is a low risk of conceiving triplets (less than 1%).
In exceptional cases, the embryo may move from the inside of the uterus to one of the fallopian tubes and implant itself there. This happens in 1-3% of IVF treatments.
This results from an exaggerated response to the stimulation. Young, thin patients, and those with polycystic morphology ovaries are at greatest risk. The incidence of the HSO is less than 1%. It entails an excessive increase in the size of the ovaries following the recovery of the ovocytes, and the secretion of substances that allow the loss of liquid from the vessels of the abdominal or thoracic cavities, with the subsequent thickening of the blood running through the arteries and veins, which leads to health risks.
