Treatment for foreign patients

It is important to be fully informed about the process and therefore the first visit with the infertility specialist is essential:

First visit

It consists of an interview with an infertility specialist, during which an exhaustive anamnesis (medical questionnaire) will be made in order to complete the medical history, the objective of which is to personalise each case and to decide on which assisted reproduction technique to use. For this reason, patients, with or without partner, are advised to bring as much information as possible about the tests and analyses they have had previously. Also in this first visit a detailed explanation will be given of the whole process, medication guidelines, the number of rest days is advised, the possible risks involved, etc.

In this first visit it is also recommended to give a semen sample (instructions on how to obtain the semen sample), which can be evaluated and possibly frozen for use in a future in vitro fertilisation treatment.

Instructions on how to obtain the semen sample

Abstain from sexual activity for between 3 and 5 days before taking the sample.
Before taking the sample it is very important to wash your hands and your genital area, making sure not to leave any traces of soap.
The semen sample has to be obtained by masturbation (this is the only way to ensure a clean and correct sample). The sample has to be handed over in less than one hour after it has been obtained. Our centre has special areas for obtaining the semen sample
The sample has to be collected in a sterile pharmaceutical container (provided by Embriogyn). Condoms or other types of receptacle should not be used
Collect all the semen from the ejaculation. If some drops are lost or the sample spills, you should inform the staff when you hand it over to our centre

Treatment coordination

Prior to and during the treatment, the couple may contact the Embriogyn staff via e-mail, telephone or fax if they have any doubts or questions.

The medication used during the treatment can be purchased in the patients’ country of origin, under the supervision of the Embriogyn medical team.

In the case of in vitro fertilisation treatment with donor eggs and in the case of a sperm sample previously preserved from the couple (during the first consultation) or the use of donor semen, the couple will only have to travel to Embriogyn once more, on the day of the embryonic transfer.

During the treatment, patients will be kept informed of the evolution of the cycle (the number of ovocytes, embryonic quality, etc.), as well as of all the clinical aspects of the cycle.
